Dedication to in almost every picture no.8

There is a book by Erik Kessels that features a bunny called oolong whose unusually flat head makes it perfect for balancing objects on. Charlie hasn't got quite such a flat head but still enjoyed this little task. This is a dedication to that amazing book.

Zine!

After a pretty hectic assignment set to draw 100 people (in a week) we got back to college and were told to put together a zine. I was grouped up with Anna who drew 100 chairs and Jo who did 100 typefaces (which to mix things up were all rubbings of words).

this is the zine we put together, it has no name, there's hardly a narrative or any sense to it so i don't think it deserves a name!

Screen Printing

We've been doing some inductions into screen printing at college and here are some of the outcomes. Its a great way to work, the end product looks so much more professional than anything you could achieve by hand and its great to be able to just churn out copies! This one was a group effort so we all contributed to the pictures of food and drink. I've got a copy on the wall in the kitchen, I think it would make a pretty good tea towel design...

This is my own image or Barbara Windsor in her Carry on days! I think its turned out really well with the photographic background (her body) and the stylized hair and her bikini!

Lets hope there's more to come!

F*cker bus

I've just been cleaning out all the rubbish on my mac and stumbled across this photo. I took it in Prague on my travels in 2007. Beauty.

We're Dead Famous.

We're having a houseparty for halloween. The theme involves dressing up as a famous person as they would look now they are dead. suggestions welcome. And this is the invite/flyer I made, i think it kind of sums up the zombie celeb idea pretty coherently.

Tiny weeny house

We got set a summer project by college to introduce ourselves, it had to be A4 and we could use any medium we liked. This is what happened.

So, I'm not entirely sure how two random men sat in a little white paper house drinking tea says about me but it just feels right.

A few more snappy snaps

Here's a few more photos from the canon FT. College is in full swing now in Bath but we've done little else than talk about the meaning of a biro and the colour blue... But tomorrow we get our induction to use the darkroom, wehey!

A slug on the pontoon.
By the lake and totally not posing.
Horace trying to juggle a social life and posing for me with the pumpkin.
The pumpkin. Beautiful and green.
Green beans and blue sky in the veggie patch.

Summer snaps

I bought myself a 1960's canon FT off ebay for a bargain so I've been having a bit of fun over these balmy summer months! Its a bit of a tank but I'm told the weight is an advantage in reducing blur when the shutter moves. I'm not sure if the quality will translate so well on a screen but here you go. Its a joy using real film and I love the grainy and more real quality. I like how the light bursts in some of the photos come out really geometric!

Early evening sunshine in the park.
On the beach at Hurst spit in Hampshire.
My gorgeous little next door neighbour Tilly wearing mum's glasses!
Colin in Hyde Park wearing the monkey hat.
Little birdies at Tropical world. Not sure what happened with the light but I'm loving the blue and orange bursts of colour, the birds look like they're on fire!

Woodland friends

Here are a few more drawings I like of some woodland animals.

On and On and On

Apologies for the dreadful scanner I'm working with! Now foundation has finished I've got a whole summer ahead of me to work on my own stuff, just for the fun of it. This is the sort of thing I've been doing, inspired by some stuff I saw in the book "over and over" by Michael Perry. Its kind of on the idea of patterns that could go on and on forever. I also seem to like drawing woodland animals. I want to get these printed on t-shirts, i think they'd look ace.

Some more samples...

A couple more images from the project I'm working on - some fantasy postcards. Here we have a temple built from sugar buried deep in a rainforest and The happy apple guesthouse, enough said. Yeah.... The plan is to end up with a book telling a sort of travel journal. I'm interested mainly in how mundane postcards are and approach these weird postcards as if they are pretty normal places to visit.

Here are a couple of photos from our trip to Paris that I've had developed so far, hopefully I may have some more soon that could be of interest. The little easel I saw by the sacre coeur in Montmatre and it just looked so quintessentially Parisian and quaint! It was an awesome trip and we got to see loads of cool stuff. The highlight probably had to be the antoine and manuel exhibiton, those two are nutters! A whole exhibition just full to bursting with amazing ideas.

Paris, Je t'aime!

There probably won't be another post for a week now as we're off to Paris for a little slice of culture. can't wait. If anyone knows about any awesome stuff going on it the city over the week let me know! but hopefully there will be some nice pics for when i come back!

Grannies.

These lovely ladies were made in response to a character brief. they're called (L-R) Valerie, Doris and Betty. I sewed them, stuffed them and then hand painted them with gouache paint. They like to get drunk of sherry, hence why they don't stand up very well.

Daffynitions

We had to make up a definition for something that doesn't have a definition, hard to explain. But basically this idea was inspired by the amazing Michael Macintyre.

Egremont. noun. Trying to guess where the train doors will stop on the platform.

Doctor foster went to Gloucester.

I think this is my Favourite animation thingy so far. Just another bit of fun on a rainy afternoon. I think I'm probably too impatient to do animation properly. but one day there will be something of worth on here.

Look what i found.

Aha! This is basically my flipbook made digital! its the result of the photo in my first post. very cute. I am told to accredit my audience with a brain but for those of you who just don't "get it" (usually my brother chris when it comes to my artwork) those are actually my thoughts popping out of my head.

Animation testers

For the Past few weeks I've been working on an independent project project and basically just playing around with some bits of animation. It wasn't necessary to produce anything finished so I've just got loads of ideas and stuff flying around. This is a set i built and lit with fairy lights.
This was made by taking photos of the toy dinosaur (courtesy of the pound shop!) in different positions and photoshopping him into my set. He's meant to look kind of mechanical and scary. I was also experimenting with shadows, not sure how effective that was though...
This last one was really successful methinks! Its photos of me walking down a street which I made using collage and then scanned in. this needs some cool music to go with my juno, style strut.... yeah...!

So basically this whole project has just been me filling my sketchbook with ideas like this just to give me some idea of what the hell to do in my final major project...!

Its blog time woohoo!

I've been meaning to set up my own blog for ages. There's always so much stuff flying around that I want to show you good people, so this will be a super-dooper amalgamation of stuff from my own creative enterprise and some cool stuff that other people have done that evidently I wish I had done first!
To start you off this lovely little person is actually me, sat on a park bench. It was part of a project at college to make a flipbook that says something about yourself. What does this say about me? I like to sit on park benches i guess...
